From werewolves howling at the full moon to racers on a mission to thrill the world, E'LAST is back to rock the music industry again.
On February 20, 2023, E'LAST made a thrilling comeback with their lastest hit single.
"Thrill" has already gained over 5.5 million views on YouTube, and counting. Being a concept that showcases a whole new side to the fierce boyband, E'LAST proves that they are dynamic, creative, and ever-evolving.
PopMachine had another opportunity to chat with Choi In, Rano, Baekgyeul, Romin, Won Hyuk, Wonjun, and Yejun (Shoutout to Seungyeop who is currently making his country proud by serving in the military).
The 4th gen K-Pop 8-strong walked us through the lyrical process of "Thrill", their vision for future concerts, their reaction to fan reaction videos (yes, ELRING. E'LAST watches your reaction videos!), and everything in between.
E'LAST stands for everlasting, and that's exactly what their successful career looks like from where we see it; with no end.
★ POPMACHINE: Hi, E'LAST! It's nice to chat with you again. Congratulations on your successful comeback! What was the biggest thrill you experienced while bringing this new song to life?
(다시 만나서 반갑습니다, 엘라스트! 성공적인 컴백, 축하드립니다. 이번 신곡을 발매함에 있어서 가장 큰 ‘쓰릴’은 어떤 것이었습니까?)
RANO: The biggest “Thrill” was coming back to our fans with a new look and the expectations about said look.
라노: 아무래도 가장 큰 'Thrill'은 새로운 모습으로 팬분들에게 돌아온 것과 그 새로움에 대한 기대감이 제일 큰 'Thrill''인 것 같습니다.
★ POPMACHINE: "Thrill" is an awesome song driven by an energetic beat. What is your favorite part or "killing point" that we need to look out for?
(“Thrill’ 은 강렬한 에너지가 느껴지는 비트감있는 곡이다. 이곡의 킬링 포인트가 있다면 어떤 포인트인가?)
YEJUN: I think the “killing point” is the last part of the song, where you can get a lingering feeling from it.
예준: 제가 생각한 킬링 포인트는 곡의 여운을 느낄 수 있는 마지막 파트입니다.
★ POPMACHINE: Can you walk us through the writing and production process of the song? What was the inspiration for this comeback?
(이 곡의 작사와 작곡 과정을 알려줄 수 있나요? 컴백에 있어서 어떤 부분이 영감이 되었나요?)
YEJUN: I had a chance to share ideas and opinions with the production staff, while I was participating on lyric writing. I wrote the lyrics on the spot while discussing.
예준: 이번에 작사에 참여하면서, 작업자분들과 모여서 의견을 나누는 시간이 있었습니다. 의견을 나누면서 즉석에서 바로 가사를 써 내려갔습니다.
★ POPMACHINE: "Thrill" gained over 3.1 million YouTube views in only 8 days. How does it feel to see your audience growing day by day?
(이번 신곡은 유튜브에서 8일만에 약 300만뷰를 돌파했다. 하루하루 시청자(청취자, 팬)이 늘어가는 걸 보는 기분은 어떠한가?)
RANO: We want to work harder to show you everything great about us, matching our fans’ energy and love.
라노: 저희에게 많은 관심과 사랑을 보내 주시는 만큼, 더 열심히 해서 저희를 바라봐 주시는 시선을 좋은 모습들로 가득 채워 드리고 싶습니다.
★ POPMACHINE: In 2022, you released your album, "ROAR", with "Creature" as the carrier single. How different are the two concepts from each other ("Creature" and "Thrill")?
(2022년에 Creature가 실린 앨범 ROAR 가 발매되었는데, 이번 곡과 컨셉이 어떻게 다른가?)
WON HYUK: You can find us as werewolves in “ROAR” with “Creature”. With “Thrill”, you can feel each of our strengths and charms.
원혁: 지난 앨범 ROAR의 Creature에서는 늑대인간의 엘라스트를 만나볼 수 있었다면 이번 Thrill은 엘라스트 멤버 각자의 매력과 강점을 잘 느껴보실 수 있습니다.
★ POPMACHINE: It has been only 3 years since you debuted and you have evolved so much already. What is the most important lesson you learned, so far, that you would like to tell your debut era self about?
(데뷔 이래 3년동안 많은 것을 이뤄냈다. 가장 큰 교훈을 얻은 것이 있다면 어떤 것이며, 데뷔당시의 나 자신에게 해주고 싶은 말이 있다면?)
WON HYUK: Practice more, and do it for the Elrings!
원혁: 더 많은 연습과 엘링들을 위해 더 많은 것을 해라! 라고 말해주고 싶습니다.
★ POPMACHINE: Your performances are phenomenal each and every time you take the stage. Aside from mastering the songs and choreography, do you have any pre-show rituals or good luck charms?
(여러분들의 라이브와 무대는 매번 경이롭다. 음원의 마스터링과 안무를 제외하고 혹시 무대 전에 하는 특별한 의식이나 행운을 비는 기도/행동이 있다면?)
CHOI IN: Being on stage is like second nature to us, it feels like breathing – so we don’t have any rituals or good luck charms. We just have a good time on stage!
최인: 무대에 서는 것은 저희에게 숨을 쉬는 것과 같은 것이기 때문에 특별한 의식이나 기도 같은 것은 하지 않는 것 같습니다! 그래서 무대 위에서 즐기다 오는 것 같습니다!
★ POPMACHINE: During our first interview with you, Won Hyuk mentioned that your group goals for 2022 include successfully completing your Japan tour and performing in front of even more ELRINGs. You clearly achieved this amazing goal (congrats!). Can you talk to us about meeting your fans and taking the stage in Japan?
(지난 인터뷰에서 원혁이 2022년의 목표로 성공적인 일본 투어와 많은 엘링들을 만나기 위해 이벤트를 많이 하겠다고 밝힌 바 있다. 이 소원을 이뤄낸데에 축하 인사를 보낸다! 일본에서의 라이브와 팬들과의 이벤트가 어땠는지 소감 한번 부탁한다.)
WON HYUK: The tour in Japan is a very happy memory for me, so I definitely want to visit again. But not only that, I also want to deliver E’LAST’s energy to Elrings in other countries as well!
원혁: 일본에서의 투어는 정말 행복한 기억으로 남아있습니다. 그만큼 얼른 또 가고 싶고 일본뿐만이 아닌 더 많은 나라의 엘링들에게 엘라스트의 에너지를 전달해 드리고 싶습니다!
★ POPMACHINE: Can ELRING expect another concert, tour, or fan meeting soon? Give us some E'LAST spoilers for 2023!
(혹 엘링에게 올해 진행될 공연이나 투어, 팬미팅 등등 스포해줄 수 있는 계획이 있다면?)
BAEK GYEOL: We have so many things planned, and your eyes and ears are going to be very happy. I recommend that you come see us and have a great time.
백결: 저희가 정말 다양하게 준비하고 눈과 귀가 호강할 수 있도록 정말 열심히 준비했으니까 직접 와서 보시고 즐겨주시면 좋을 거 같습니다.
★ POPMACHINE: In your concept photos and music video for "Thrill", you're all clad in fashionable street style and racer-inspired outfits. Which accessory or piece of clothing was your favorite?
(이번 ‘Thrill’ 뮤직비디오와 컨셉포토를 보면 스트릿패션과 레이서 복장을 하고 있다. 둘 중 어떤 착장이 가장 맘에 드는지?)
ROMIN: I personally like the racing outfit, since I’ve always wanted to try it out.
로민: 저는 개인적으로 레이싱 복장이 평소에 시도해 보고 싶었던 스타일이라 더 맘에 듭니다.
★ POPMACHINE: While we're on the topic of fashion, can you describe your personal sense of style?
(패션에 대해 얘기를 해볼까, 각자의 스타일에 대해 설명부탁드립니다)
ROMIN: I personally like unique and vibrant styles. I don’t set a limit to fashion, and I would say I’m pretty daring when it comes to clothes.
로민: 저는 개인적으로 화려하고 유니크한 스타일을 좋아하는데 패션에 한계를 정하지 않는 편이라서 패션에 대해 도전적인 성향입니다.
WON HYUK: I like to wear eye-catching clothing. And personally, I like things that cover my hands – such as sleeves that you can put your fingers in!
원혁: 저는 화려하고 튀는 스타일을 좋아합니다. 그리고 개인적으로 손이 가려지는 걸 좋아해서 손가락을 낄 수 있는 옷을 좋아합니다!
WON JUN: My wardrobe is neat and dandy, but I think I also like dressing cute.
원준: 댄디하고 깔끔한 옷을 좋아하고 귀엽게 입는 것도 좋아하는 스타일인 것 같아요.
BAEK GYEOL: I like my outfits neat, with a hip vibe to them.
백결: 저는 깔끔하지만 힙한 느낌을 추가하는 것을 좋아합니다.
RANO: I prefer neat and casual styles over anything, and I also like bright colors.
라노: 저는 깔끔하고 캐쥬얼한 스타일을 선호하는 것 같고, 밝은 색상들을 좋아하기도 합니다.
YEJUN: I just wear something safe and not that bold. When I’m not planning to go out, I like wearing comfortable clothes.
예준: 그냥 무난하게 입거나 가까운 거리를 이동할 때는 편한 옷차림을 선호합니다.
CHOI IN: I think I look good in any style, so I don’t have a certain aesthetic that I stick to. However, I do like cropped jackets and tucking my shirt in.
최인: 뭐든 소화를 잘 하기 때문에 뚜렷하게 선호하는 스타일은 없지만 크롭한 기장의 외투나 바지에 상의를 넣어 입는 스타일을 선호하는 편입니다!
★ POPMACHINE: Can you make an acrostic poem for ELRING with "Thrill"?

★ POPMACHINE: Lots of your fans make reaction videos to your music videos. Have you had the chance to watch any of them? What was your reaction to their reaction?
(많은 팬들이 엘라스트의 뮤직비디오에 리액션 비디오를 올리고 있는데, 혹시 본 적이 있는가? 그들의 리액션 비디오에 대한 엘라스트의 리액션은 어떠했는가?)
WON HYUK: I felt so proud while watching the MV reaction videos by Elrings. I think I get a little bit nervous when my part comes up, but I’m happy that many Elrings liked it. I’m always looking forward to these videos!
원혁: 많은 엘링들의 MV Reaction을 보며 기분이 뿌듯하면서 좋았습니다. 제 파트가 나올 때 가장 긴장이 되기도 하고 설레기도 하는데 엘링들이 많이 좋아해 줘서 행복했습니다. 앞으로도 많이 볼 것이고 기대할 것입니다!
★ POPMACHINE: Can you share a recent TMI moment that would make fans laugh?
(최근 가장 재밌었던 TMI 순간은?)
CHOI IN: Recently we had a chance to meet Elrings in Chungju and Daegu. It was the most fun I had in a while!
최인: 최근에 청주와 대구에서 엘링들을 만났던 순간이 가장 재미있던 순간이었습니다!
★ POPMACHINE: Boybands usually live together like brothers in a dorm. Is this the case for E'LAST as well? If so, can you tell us about the best and funniest at-home habits of each member?
(보이그룹은 합숙하며 형제처럼 지내곤 하는데, 엘라스트 또한 그러한가? 만약 그렇다면, 합속소에서 같이 즐기는 재밌는 취미나 놀이같은 것들이 있는지 말해줄 수 있나?)
YEJUN: I think we go along pretty well, even when we have age differences. We’re always very comfortable with each other in the dorms (haha).
예준: 특히 저희 멤버들끼리는 나이와 상관 없이 친하게 어울려 지내는 거 같아요. 그래서 숙소에서 멤버들과 편안하게 지내는 것 같습니다. ㅎㅎ
★ POPMACHINE: Which member is the morning alarm clock and which is the most challenging to wake up in the morning?
(아침에 가장 일찍 일어나는 멤버는 누구인가? 아침에 가장 일어나기 힘들어하는 멤버는?)
ROMIN: Gyeol is the early bird, and I’m the one that has the hardest time waking up.
로민: 가장 일찍 일어나는 멤버는 결이형이고, 가장 일어나기 힘들어하는 멤버는 저입니다.
★ POPMACHINE: What is your favorite food? And what type of food would you never eat?
(가장 좋아하는 음식은? 평생 한번도 먹어본 적 없는 음식이 있다면 어떤 종류인가?)
WON JUN: My absolute favorite food is teokbokki. Also, as many Elrings know already, I love gummies more than anything.
원준: 제가 정말 좋아하는 음식은 떡볶이입니다. 그리고 엘링들이 알고 있듯 그 무엇보다 젤리를 정말 좋아합니다.
★ POPMACHINE: If you could spend 1 whole day with ELRING, where would you take them and what activities will you plan?
(만약 하루를 엘링과 온전히 보낼 수 있다면, 어떤 액티비티를 같이 해보면 좋을지 생각해 본 적 있는가?)
ROMIN: I have so many things I would like to do, but if I had to choose, I think it will be fun to spend a day at an amusement park with ELRING.
로민: 해보고 싶은 것들은 정말 많은데 그중 하나만 고르자면 놀이공원에서 엘링과 하루를 보내면 재밌을 것 같습니다.
★ POPMACHINE: What is one unique element that you would like to incorporate in any of your future concerts?
(향후에 진행될 엘라스트의 라이브 콘서트에서 어떤 것들을 새롭게 시도해보고 싶은가?)
WON JUN: I would like to try a solo performance, with my own song or a creative performance.
원준: 저의 자작곡이나 창작 무대를 콘서트에서 개인 무대로 해보고 싶습니다.
★ POPMACHINE: Wonjun's birthday is coming up on March 8, right? Happy birthday in advance! What is your wish?
